About Wine celler Happacherhof

For more than 400 years, the Happacherhof, today the training farm of the technical college for agriculture, has stood at the entrance to the village of Auer in the sunny South Tyrolean lowlands. The farm, which is steeped in history, covers about 14 hectares of cultivated land, including 9 hectares of orchards, 4 hectares of vineyards and smaller plots of land with soft fruit, stone fruit, horticulture and tree nursery.
Four grape varieties are cultivated on the farm on a larger scale: Merlot and Lagrein, which have a long tradition of cultivation in Auer, as well as Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay. The Lagrein variety is cultivated according to the guidelines of organic production.
The grapes are processed under the direction of cellar master Thomas Mayr in the farm's own modern winery. The winery has been in operation since 1999 and the students can experience and understand the cycle from cultivation to cellaring and ageing of the wines to marketing as part of the corresponding exercises.
Currently on sale are a Chardonnay, a Chardonnay Riserva, a Merlot, the Rubin, a cuvee of Merlot and Cabernet, a Biolagrein and the Passito Aurum based on Chardonnay and Petit Manseng. The wines can be purchased directly from the farm or at www.wein-online.it.
